Sweet Tucker is a happy, young dog looking for a new lease on life. He's smart, affectionate, and energetic and will be a great companion for the right person. Still, he's had it rough and has a history to overcome.

He came to the shelter as a baby and was fearful and unsocialized. Two adoptions failed because the adopters couldn't handle his energy and herding instincts. An unfortunate situation arose where Tucker actually bit a 12-year old child--even though adopters were warned that the dog was not appropriate with children.

Since then, Tucker has blossomed into a friendly, outgoing pup. While he is still cautious in new situations, with new people and dogs, he has learned to enjoy life. He's just a fun, cheerful boy looking for someone to give him a chance.

The lucky person who adopts Tucker will have a real "velcro" dog. Like any good herding dog, Tucker is very focused on his person. He's attentive, comes when called, and stays right by your side. He likes to play, but he's more about the chase than the fetch. :) He enjoys the company of other dogs and is learning how to play with them. He's shy initially but warms up fast. He's a little wary of cats, so teaching him to respect them shouldn't be too hard.

Tucker is super smart and enjoyable to train. He needs regular activity that challenges him mentally and physically. He has lots of energy and needs productive outlets for it. He's a great obedience prospect and could possibly excel in agility or flyball, too. Because he is so smart and active, however, his new home should be experienced with dogs, preferably with herding breeds.

Although he is an unknown mix, his personality and temperament are very typical of the Australian Cattle Dog, also known as Blue Heelers and Red Heelers. For information on the breed, you can visit the Australian Cattle Dog Club of America website.

Due to the bite incident, prospective applicants must answer a questionnaire, provide personal references and a vet reference. In addition, Tucker's adopter must file a waiver acknowledging awareness of his history.
